Welcome to Heritage Jr./Sr. High School!
As we move into December and wrap up the first semester, I want to highlight one of the biggest predictors of student success—good attendance. When students show up, they grow. When they miss school, they miss valuable learning, connections, and routines that prepare them for the future.
Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10% of the school year—just 18 days. At Heritage Jr./Sr. High School, students who attend less than 94% of the time (more than 10 absences) see declines in academic performance, course completion, and overall engagement. Those who maintain strong attendance—94–95% or better—perform higher academically, participate more, and report feeling more connected to teachers and peers.
Our goal is simple: fewer than 10 absences for every student.
Beginning in December, we’ll introduce several attendance incentives, including:
Monthly recognition for perfect and improved attendance
Grade-level attendance competitions
Quarterly reward events for students meeting the 94%+ threshold
Special recognition for students with fewer than 10 absences for the year
Thank you for partnering with us to support strong attendance and student success.
Sincerely,
Steve Walter Jr. - Principal
