The Heritage JV football team’s record is 3-4 as they prepare for their final game of the season this Saturday, Oct. 14 versus Jay County.

On Oct. 2, the team traveled to Bluffton for a game with the Bluffton JV Tigers.

In advance of the matchup, sophomore Gery Gerber said, “If we play hard and do our jobs and give 110% effort, I believe that we can beat Bluffton.”

Freshman Iestyn Roe said, “I believe we can win it tonight because we got a solid squad, and [although] we haven’t started off too good the first few weeks, hopefully we can do our jobs and get the dub.”

In the Bluffton game, with the Heritage defense putting heavy pressure on the Bluffton quarterback, the Patriots forced two interceptions in the first quarter, with Gerber and Brady Boyle coming down with one each.

However, the first quarter went by and no points were scored. But then in the second quarter Bluffton scored a touchdown on a deep pass. They ended up scoring again on a long run in the fourth quarter. The JV Pats fell 12-0, with Bluffton failing in their two-point conversion opportunities.

In the team’s week eight matchup, they played Prairie Heights on Monday, Oct. 9. The first quarter started fast with the Heritage defense getting a stop and forcing a punt. Then the Heritage offense drove down the field to score an immediate touchdown.

After a back and forth first quarter, Heritage led 16-8.

In the second half, the Patriots had stop after stop, and the offense was firing on all cylinders.

After the hard-fought game, the Heritage Patriots JV came out with the victory 48-16, bringing their record to 3-4.

The team will look to even up the record this Saturday in the final showdown with Jay County. Kickoff is at 10:00 a.m. on the Patriot turf.

Brady Boyle said, “We will try to compete and just get better as a team and give 110%.”
